Crane repair services, system by system

A crane that will not lift, drifts, leaks or stops answering the remote has a cause. Here is what we repair, and what we look at first.

We work on truck mounted equipment: knuckle boom cranes, stick boom trucks, service body cranes, septic and drywall crane trucks, log loaders and grapples, bucket trucks, digger trucks and manlifts. The list below is how the work breaks down on the shop floor.

Hydraulic cylinders

Boom, extension, outrigger, jib, slewing and fork cylinders. A cylinder that lets the boom creep down, or an outrigger that sinks overnight, is usually worn seals, a scored rod or a leaking holding valve. We pull the cylinder, check the rod and the barrel, and reseal it or rebuild it. When the rod or barrel is past saving, we tell you before you pay for a reseal that will not last. Seal kits for many makes are listed at drywallcranes.com.

Hoses, valves, pumps and PTOs

  • Hoses made up and replaced, with the routing and the chafe points fixed so it does not happen again
  • Control valve sections, relief valves and holding valves diagnosed and repaired or replaced
  • Pumps and PTOs: slow functions, noise, heat and a crane that loses power as the oil warms up
  • Oil and filter service, and contamination found and flushed before it takes out a new pump

Booms, pins and structure

  • Cracks at the boom foot, the base, the column and the outrigger boxes, repaired properly
  • Pins and bushings, sliding pads and wear pads on extension sections
  • Bent or damaged sections after an incident, assessed before anyone lifts with it again
  • Sub-frame and mounting problems, including cracked mounts and loose bolts
  • Fabrication and welding in our own shop, so the repair does not go out to a third party

Rotation and outriggers

Slew drives, rack and pinion slewing, gear rings and slew bearings: play, noise, jerky rotation or a crane that will not hold its position. Outrigger beams, stabilizer cylinders and their check valves, and the interlocks that keep the crane from working with the outriggers up.

Controls, radio remotes and safety systems

  • Radio remotes: the transmitter, the receiver, the harness or the valve bank, found by testing instead of by swapping parts. Remote parts through drywallcranes.com
  • Top seats, levers and control linkages
  • Limit switches, overload protection and load holding faults that stop the crane from working
  • Wiring and electrical faults between the truck and the crane

Winches and hoists

Winch motors, brakes, drums and wire rope on cranes and boom trucks that have one. Wire rope is inspected and replaced when it is worn, kinked or crushed.

The truck under the crane

A crane fault is often a truck fault: a PTO that will not engage, low engine speed, a soft frame or a tired drivetrain. We started as a diesel shop and still work on the truck: engines, brakes, air systems, transmissions, differentials and transfer cases. More on that side at diesel truck repair in Orlando.

Installs, remounts and rebuilds

  • A crane moved from a worn out chassis onto a newer one, with a new sub-frame and hydraulics
  • New cranes installed on your truck, including PM and Rotobec as the authorized dealer
  • Full rebuild and recondition of an older crane that is worth keeping
  • Custom work in our fabrication shop

Insurance and damage repair

When a crane is damaged on a job or on the road, we document the damage, write the repair estimate and work with your insurance adjuster, so the unit gets back to work without a second round of quotes.
